The focus is on a single dogwood blossom opening in the early spring.

Images and textures have been layered to create a composite art print of a original photograph.

The name "dog-tree" entered the English vocabulary by 1548, and had been further transformed to dogwood by 1614. Once the name dogwood was affixed to this kind of tree, it soon acquired a secondary name as the Hound's Tree, while the fruits came to be known as dogberries or houndberries (the latter a name also for the berries of black nightshade, alluding to Hecate's hounds). Another theory advances the view that dogwood was derived from the Old English dagwood, from the use of the slender stems of its very hard wood for making "dags" (daggers, skewers, and arrows). Terry Rowe has a lifetime of experience in the arts. She is a creative exploring photography, graphic design, stitchery, jewelry making, and sculpting. One of the original founders of the Del Ray Artisans in Alexandria, Virginia, she has been actively involved in the arts for over twenty years. She recently retired, after 41 years of service, as the Art Director, House Creative Services, Office of the Chief Administrative Officer, U.S. House of Representatives. In her photographs, Terry seeks to capture a moment, to give the viewer a glimpse of place and time that arrests the movement of life and allows one to savor what is there to be seen.
