I remember reading a quote from a letter that Georgia O'Keefe wrote to a friend upon her arrival in New Mexico. I cannot remember the exact quote, but it was something along the lines of being able to breathe in New Mexico.
That sums up how I feel every time I visit New Mexico - my soul soars and I can breathe. I feel myself expand and the skies seem to envelope me.
I took this photograph somewhere in Georgia O'Keefe country, along the road between Abiquiu and Ghost Ranch. I parked the car and walked into the red rocks, the sky was enchanting and the rock walls seemed to embrace the sky.
Abiquiu (Navajo Haʼagizh) is a small place located in Rio Arriba County, in northern New Mexico in the southwestern United States, about 53 miles north of Santa Fe. In the 1730s, it was the third largest settlement in the Spanish province of Nuevo Mexico. Artist Georgia O'Keeffe lived there from 1949 until shortly before her death in 1986 at 98 years of age.
